West Gate Tunnel - Container Logistics Impacts Seminar - Tuesday, 4 March 2025

The opening of the West Gate Tunnel and upgraded M1 infrastructure later in 2025 will have a significant impact on container logistics operations to/from the Port of Melbourne. The Victorian Government also intends to enforce No Truck Zones on inner west roads near the Port. This Seminar aims to begin to arm all container logistics chain stakeholders with a greater understanding of what the impacts will be. In addition, there will be a general update on port developments from the Port of Melbourne and a panel session with container terminal operators on landside interface issues.

CTAA, in collaboration with Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA), the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA), and other industry bodies, is hosting this Free Seminar to provide initial information on:


  • Keynote address by the Victorian Minister for Ports & Freight, Hon. Melissa Horne MP
  • Final construction phases ahead of the new infrastructure being fully commissioned later in 2025
  • Heavy vehicle tolling information - how will this impact on containerised road transport costs?
  • Implementation of tolling for heavy vehicles using the West Gate Bridge as well as the West Gate Tunnel
  • What inner west roads will be impacted by No Truck Zones and what does that mean for heavy vehicle access to/from the Port of Melbourne?
  • How is Transurban preparing for the opening and what opportunities will be available in the coming months to prepare industry?
  • Update on broader port developments in the Port of Melbourne
  • Update from container terminal operators on the latest landside interface issues
